Golden Milk

Golden milk or turmeric milk is a warm soothing drink that has been known to help with inflammation, upset stomach, and other common ailments. Based on a traditional Ayurvedic recipe this is a modern spin on a revered ancient drink.

When I first tried golden milk it was in a premixed pouch, then I tried another version, then another. All the premixed varieties of golden milk were fine, I knew I had the ingredients already and figured I could easily make it myself. Here is what I did:

First you’ll need a sauce pan, a whisk, a wooden spoon, measuring cups, measuring spoons, and a mug for later.

Total time: 20 minutes

  • cup unsweetened almond milk — or coconut milk

  • 2 teaspoons honey — plus additional to taste (to make vegan, swap maple syrup)

  • 1 1/2 teaspoons almond butter

  • 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

  • 1/2 teaspoon Ground Cinnamon — plus additional for serving

  • 1/4 teaspoon Ground Turmeric

  • 1/8 teaspoon Ground Ginger

  • 1/8 teaspoon Ground Cloves

  • pinch ground black pepper -piperine in black pepper helps with the absorption of the curcumin in turmeric

  • optional pinch of ground cardamom

How to:

  1. Add milk, almond butter, and honey to pan, whisk together until almond butter has smoothly mixed in.

  2. Add the rest of the spices and bring to a boil.

  3. Reduce heat and allow to simmer for 10 minutes.

  4. Pour into mug for serving.

  5. ENJOY!
