Megan’s Body Butter Recipe

I love making my own skin products and I am very passionate about using high quality ingredients. Your skin is your body’s largest organ and by being mindful of what we put on our bodies is as important as what we put inside them. I hope you love this recipe as much as all my friends and family do!

Here is a little backstory on why I use the ingredients I do, feel free to make this recipe your own and scent it using what you love. This version is based around creating harmony with the almond oil and arnica tincture. Cocoa butter, shea butter, coconut oil, almond oil, vitamin E, and arnica tincture are all known for their beneficial properties for the skin. Here are some of the skin benefits of each of these ingredients:

  1. Cocoa butter: Cocoa butter is a rich source of antioxidants that help to protect the skin from damage caused by free radicals. It is also an excellent moisturizer and can help to improve the elasticity of the skin. Additionally, it has anti-inflammatory properties that can soothe irritated or inflamed skin.

  2. Shea butter: Shea butter is a natural emollient that can help to moisturize and soften the skin. It is also rich in fatty acids and vitamins that can help to nourish and protect the skin. Additionally, it has anti-inflammatory and anti-aging properties that can help to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

  3. Coconut oil: Coconut oil is a natural moisturizer that can help to hydrate the skin and prevent moisture loss. It also has anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties that can help to soothe irritated skin and prevent infections. Additionally, it can help to improve the skin's elasticity and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

  4. Almond oil: Almond oil is rich in fatty acids and vitamins that can help to nourish and protect the skin. It also has anti-inflammatory properties that can help to soothe irritated skin. Additionally, it can help to improve the skin's texture and tone.

  5. Vitamin E: Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant that can help to protect the skin from damage caused by free radicals. It also has anti-inflammatory properties that can help to reduce redness and swelling. Additionally, it can help to moisturize and heal dry, damaged skin.

  6. Arnica tincture: Arnica tincture is a natural anti-inflammatory that can help to reduce swelling and bruising. It can also help to improve circulation and promote healing. Additionally, it has analgesic properties that can help to relieve pain and discomfort. However, it should be used with caution as it may cause irritation in some people.

Overall, these ingredients can provide a range of benefits for the skin, from moisturizing and nourishing to protecting and healing. When used in skincare products, they can help to promote healthy, radiant skin.

How to make your own whipped body butter:

Tools

Food scale

double boiler

spatula

Kitchen Aid Mixer(hand mixer also works)

jars for storage

Ingredients(what I used is linked)

16oz Cocoa Butter or this Cocoa Butter

16oz Shea Butter

10oz Coconut oil

16oz/one bottle Almond oil

8oz(2 bottles) Vitamin E oil

Arnica Tincture

Almond Extract(for scent)

Vanilla Extract(for scent)

  1. Add the Cocoa Butter to the double boiler first, it takes the longest to melt down. Stir occasionally as it liquifies.

  2. Add the Shea Butter when the Cocoa butter has almost completely melted, stirring occasionally.

  3. Add Coconut Oil and continue stirring as it assimilates in.

  4. Once coconut oil has completely melted pour in the Almond oil followed by the vitamin E oil.

  5. Turn off heat and allow to cool until it’s room temperature. Cover and put in fridge to cool further.

  6. Once almost solid take out of the fridge and whip. While the mixture is being whipped add the Arnica tincture, almond extract, and vanilla extract (I sometimes have to break down into more than one round of whipping the butter due to volume)

  7. Put into jars or bpa free containers and store in a cool dry place(even the fridge works) and try to use within a year. Enjoy!!
